It’s the year of the stay-cation, but with hotels and Airbnbs across the country booked up for summer, could it be time to turn to the humble caravan for a nomadic holiday?

If the idea of a caravan doesn’t appeal to your usual design sensibilities, Studio Edward’s trailer design collaboration with Base Cabin may be more up your street.

The Base Cabin is designed to be transported on a trailer, then wheeled into its desired location. It offers an interesting prospect for those interested in the concept of a mobile home, but with architectural flourish.

Architectural outlook

The first thing you’ll notice about the Base Cabin is that it’s not your everyday trailer design from the outside. Inspired by cabins and iconic airstream trailers, the angular A-frame is clad in black rubber, deferring to the beautiful natural landscapes to which it could potentially journey.

Micro-homely

On the inside, warm, natural materials create a cosy space. A sleeping space sits under the A-frame portion of the roof, while looking out through the large triangular window.

A sink and small counter to the rear of the pod create a small kitchen space, while the central toilet and shower pod is offered light from the roof light above.

It is a small space, but creating a connection with the outdoors, and bringing a design element with it, it’s certainly a more attractive and desirable prospect.
