This spectacular home may look minimal and uniform from the outside, but behind closed doors, the architecture creates a unique interior space.

Hedge House, one of the most dynamic residential builds in the West Midlands, has recently been completed by Signature Collection by Centrick. The vast 2-storey build, spanning 10,450 square feet and 180 feet in length, in the Knowle countryside is now on the market, searching for its first owner, so if you like the idea of living in a Grand Designs-style build, but not the idea of self-building for yourself, you could snap up Hedge House for the price of £3.5 million.

Much like a hedge row, the structure is long and rectangular – presenting an almost solid front without large glazed windows typical of contemporary builds that serve to protect the home from scrutiny from the outside. Instead, windows are tall and narrow, set at regular intervals along the facade.

Local materials

Not only is the exterior a combination of locally sourced brick and larch felled by the Forestry Commission in Cannock Chase set in vertical columns, the materials are left exposed in some areas of the house as a rustic, textured contrast to the more contemporary materials used elsewhere.

Inside and out

Through this corner of the master suite, one of 5 bedrooms in the property, you can appreciate the internal structure of Hedge House. The house is made up of enclosed interior courtyards, adding to the limited natural light brought in through the internal windows to ensure the space is bright and inspiring.

Interior windows

The nature of the windows, combined with the location, means that the home feels private and secluded, without the need for fussy window treatments interrupting the clean lines of the space.

Luxury finishes

While many of the rooms in the home are awaiting its new owner to stamp their own style on, the bathrooms and kitchen have been fitted out with luxurious, contemporary fittings.
