When you start thinking about what your dream kitchen might look like, it is easy to ignore the process of achieving it. You will be without a kitchen for what could be weeks and often months.

The kitchen is the most stressful room in the house to renovate. Our kitchens are the hearts of our homes. Losing them for even the shortest amount of time turns life upside down especially if you have children and even more so if you work from home.

Ken & Gita’s story

Ken and Gita planned a substantial kitchen and living area extension on the side of their period property in Northamptonshire this summer. This meant they would be without a kitchen for 12 weeks while the work was carried out.

Having previously lived through a kitchen refurbishment 15 years ago, they knew only too well what an upheaval this would be, having to manage without cooking and laundry facilities for this length of time.

During the building works, the side of the house was opened up by taking out walls, extending into the garden and building a contemporary glass structure overlooking their patio and gardens

They chose a shaker-style kitchen with glass bead moulding by Grand Union Designs in Daventry, Northamptonshire. Hand painted on site the island is ‘Deep Green’ and the outer furniture is ‘Elephants Breath’. The AG Blanco Carrara Q Quartz worktops are in a leathered style finish.
