Surviving a kitchen renovation
The Temporary Kitchen Pod means you can still live at home during your kitchen refurbishment
Planning a new kitchen? Then you’ve probably already found many useful guides that take you through every step of the process from planning permission requirements, design and layout and finding an architect, builder and kitchen planner.
But what about planning to be without a kitchen?
When you start thinking about what your dream kitchen might look like, it is easy to ignore the process of achieving it. You will be without a kitchen for what could be weeks and often months.
The kitchen is the most stressful room in the house to renovate. Our kitchens are the hearts of our homes. Losing them for even the shortest amount of time turns life upside down especially if you have children and even more so if you work from home.
Your builder will probably tell you not to worry about not having a kitchen and a good one might offer to set up something temporary for you. The image below is what he will mean.
The reality is that kitchen renovation is not for the faint-hearted. It is unavoidably noisy, unbelievably messy and very invasive. You will find yourself sharing your sink with brick layers, plasters and tilers and coming home every night to a new layer of brick dust on every surface of your makeshift kitchen area.
Very few homeowners realise that the day their existing kitchen is ripped out and thrown in a skip will come faster than they envisaged. Swiftly followed by the demolition of walls and ceilings and soon all that remains of what was once an essential space in your home, is an empty dusty shell open to the elements.
Those who did plan ahead and set up a makeshift kitchen in another room will soon find it covered in dust, rubble and mess and ask themselves “How does it keep getting in here?” The answer is quite simply that you are living on a building site.
What’s the answer?
The simple solution is to hire a Temporary Kitchen Pod. Hiring a Pod during your kitchen renovation will give you an oasis of clean and calm away from the carnage going on inside your home. This fully equipped portable kitchen sits outside of the property away from the rubble, dust, contractors and their on-site radio.
It will soon become your sanctuary. A place to go to escape the mess and noise where you can prepare your family meals, cook and dine, do your laundry and relax in a quiet, clean and focused space. The table and chairs in the Pod can double as a workspace for those who work from home and a place for children to do homework or tabletop activities.
Our fleet of Pods service the UK nationwide and are available to hire in three different sizes. Inside The Luxury Pod you’ll find…’
- hob
- double oven with separate grill
- sink
- washing machine
- dishwasher
- fridge freezer
- dining table & chairs
- heat & light
- power sockets for your small appliances
Ken & Gita’s story
Ken and Gita planned a substantial kitchen and living area extension on the side of their period property in Northamptonshire this summer. This meant they would be without a kitchen for 12 weeks while the work was carried out.
Having previously lived through a kitchen refurbishment 15 years ago, they knew only too well what an upheaval this would be, having to manage without cooking and laundry facilities for this length of time.
During the building works, the side of the house was opened up by taking out walls, extending into the garden and building a contemporary glass structure overlooking their patio and gardens
‘We had no idea that a Temporary Kitchen service was available. We were coming to terms with having to use our TV room as a makeshift setup and the outside dog bath as a sink! Then our genius Architect did some online research and found Temporary Kitchen Pod. The booking process was straightforward and all done via email. The delivery and installation were straightforward too. The Pod arrived on time with no issues and it was immaculately clean.
The pod turned out to be a lifesaver! We had a fridge/freezer, hob/oven, sink with hot and cold water, washing machine as well as a table and chairs. We had to extend the booking period as our extension project overran by a few weeks, with no problem at all in the process. An excellent idea and a brilliant service.’ Gita Savage
Ken and Gita created a beautiful new modern-traditional space that seamlessly merges the clean lines and simplicity of modern design with the warmth and elegance of traditional elements.
They chose a shaker-style kitchen with glass bead moulding by Grand Union Designs in Daventry, Northamptonshire. Hand painted on site the island is ‘Deep Green’ and the outer furniture is ‘Elephants Breath’. The AG Blanco Carrara Q Quartz worktops are in a leathered style finish.
