Following home renovation Instagram accounts can be useful when tackling your own project. DIY renovators will often share useful hints, tips and ideas, as well as mistakes to avoid. These are some of the best accounts to follow right now…

1. What have we Dunoon

Couple Claire and Cal ‘accidentally’ bought Jameswood villa following a misunderstanding at a property auction back in 2018. They have been restoring the derelict Victorian property in Dunoon, Scotland, ever since. This creative couple’s positivity is infectious and, not only do they offer plenty of DIY inspiration for your own self-build project, they’re also doing their utmost to keep the restoration project sustainable. 2. Man with a hammer

Keen DIYer Greg, aka @manwithahammer, is now on his second renovation project, a grand ex-Naval Georgian property in Devon. Currently two years into ‘Britain’s biggest DIY job’, he’s taking it one room at a time, sharing his trials and tribulations on his renovation Instagram account. Greg is a 2020 UK Interior Awards winner 2020.

3. My tiny estate

Dean and Borja have taken on a huge renovation project – an estate in the heart of Warwickshire – which they’re documenting on Instagram. Expertise as an architect and a surveyor comes together with plenty of renovation experience, meaning that they can transform their ‘tiny estate’, which includes multiple buildings and gardens sitting on 2.5 acres of land, one step at a time with their own hands. Their progress is now being made into a TV show so stay tuned for news on when that’s getting released, and where! Follow @mytinyestate

5. Hunterswood self build

This inspirational project, which kicked off during lockdown in May 2020, takes you through everything from planting trees to creating a home gym. The enviable location looks like something straight out of the TV series, and each post leaves you eager to know which room the couple – ‘an architect husband with expensive taste and a bargain-hunting wife’ – will renovate next. 6. Our home renovation

First-time buyers Emily White and Tom Young embarked on their home renovation journey in March 2021. The Hertfordshire-based couple has posted videos of them plastering, laying wooden flooring in elaborate zig-zag patterns, and tiling the kitchen, alongside plenty of images of walls, floors and ceilings stripped back to their bare bones. In January 2022, they unveiled their contemporary new kitchen. Follow @our_home_renovation1
