Inside this classically-styled family kitchen in Kent

This repositioned family kitchen now makes the most out of its beautiful garden views

By Becca Green |

This stylish kitchen was repositioned in order to make the most of the landscaped gardens of this large family home.

The owner of this property wanted to reposition the location of the kitchen so it would look out into the landscaped garden of the detached, gated property in a picturesque Kent village.

As well as desiring a kitchen that was stylish and functional, the owner needed a space that her and her family could enjoy together. Working with Stoneham Kitchens, the result is a modern kitchen incorporating traditional elements to create an inviting space.

Durable and stylish

The furniture was chosen first, Stoneham’s Knole range painted in the Farrow and Ball colour – Railings. This deep hue provides a luxurious finish, contrasting perfectly with the opaque creamy white Quartz Calcatta Nuvo worktops, which feature light cascading grey veins. The worktops perfectly compliment the marble grey flooring.

The island

Taking centre stage in the room is the stand-out rectangular kitchen island. Feature units were included at either end, including an electric lift-up 32 inch TV perfect for keeping the family entertained but hidden away when not in use.

On the opposite side, a wooden slatted lower shelf was integrated allowing the owner to display decorative potted plants. In the centre of the island is an integrated hob with built-in extractor allowing the family to cook while looking out onto their beautiful garden – made possible with bi-fold glass doors spanning two sides of the room.

The pantry bar

Another key feature is the pantry bar with oak dovetail drawers and pocket doors that hide out of sight, so the bar is on full view for the family and guests. Floor to ceiling in height, the unit includes glass shelving for all manner of glassware and the owners’ favourite spirit bottles. The drawers below include specially crafted storage to lay bottles of wine and fizz for those special occasions.

Bringing the outdoors in

The kitchen is surrounded by bi-fold doors that open out into the beautifully landscaped garden, making the garden feel like it’s an extension of the kitchen therefore bringing the outdoors in. Because the kitchen has so much light flooding the space, the owner could embrace dark units and flooring without overwhelming the space.

Ambient lighting

The light and airy feel of the room is further enhanced with Sensio LED lighting under the main wall units and under the worktops – this provides the ideal ambience in the kitchen, especially when the nights get darker.
