Your bathroom can be just as stylish as any other room in your home, even if it is a bit on the small size.

Small home? You're not alone

Whilst homes are getting smaller, retailers are learning to adapt by designing new and innovative small space products. You don’t have to compromise on style even when space has already been compromised for you. Inspirational products and designs are hitting the market each and every day, so, even with a small space, you can still keep your dreams of a personality-driven home alive.

With a wave of micro homes, especially for first time buyers, the UK is now considered to have some of the smallest houses per square metre compared to the rest of the EU. House sizes reached a peak in the 1980s, averaging around 83 sq. m, however there has been a steep decline since then; houses are now averaging 67 sq. m, comparable in size to homes in the 1930s.

So what can you do about it?

VictoriaPlum.com have recognised this shift and are now helping you to create your dream bathroom, even if space isn’t on your side. With a wide range of compact furniture and small space solutions, they offer plenty of expert advice and fabulous inspiration.

Each month, VictoriaPlum.com create their “Get the look” style guides. Each style guide features on-trend designs and themes, suggesting the perfect products to choose, and explaining how you can “get the look” in a smaller-sized bathroom. Here are a few of our favourites so far.

Exceptional ensuites

Judging by the number of us who reside in the UK’s big cities, urban living remains an attractive proposition to people of all ages. The Manhattan ensuite bathroom manages to capture a refined style, with gold fixtures and mid-century furniture. Artisan tiles and a bold green wall combine brilliantly well, whilst the luxurious walk in shower helps to maintain an open plan feel.

Classic cloakrooms

Converting a rural property can throw up some real design issues. However, this rustic style cloakroom manages to combine contemporary ceramics and furniture with original features to great effect. Barn style doors open up the space, revealing rough stone walls and a stylish wooden washstand.

Featuring classic retro influences from the modern design era, this New Retro cloakroom is both bold and vibrant. With colourful metro tiles and the use of geometric shapes throughout, this small cloakroom is bound to fill you with a warm sense of nostalgia.

Fabulous family bathrooms

Industrial style interiors are enduringly popular, however many people find the look a little harsh for a domestic setting. This soft industrial style family bathroom smooths the edges a little, introducing more sympathetic, rounded edges, for a look and feel that is warm and inviting.

Travel has an influence on many aspects of our lives, not least the way we decorate and furnish our homes. This Mexican-themed bathroom may be small in size but it packs quite a punch when it comes to styling. Shades of ochre and azure blue adorn the walls, whilst pristine white furniture and ceramics add a lighter touch to this wet room design.
