A bold barn

Last year, Mr and Mrs Sanders embarked on a radical renovation of a barn they have lived in for 24 years in Bridgend, South Wales. The renovation saw all the internal walls stripped away and industrial touches added.

The new kitchen opens out into a dining and living area and has beautiful internal features that are sympathetic to the original long barn, making for a harmonious design.

Stripped back

Mr and Mrs Sanders had a very clear idea of the look and feel of the space that they wanted. After evaluating how they lived in the space, it was key to ensure the kitchen was completely integrated into the living and dining area.

Deciding on H Line Hampton Graphite by Masterclass Kitchens, Mr and Mrs Sanders found the exact answer to their brief – minimal and stealth-like. Keeping the kitchen feature-less and minimal allowed for a juxtaposition between the modern look of the furniture and the traditional look of the stone walls and exposed beams.

Modern living

One of the main challenges the designer faced when crating this kitchen space, was ensuring Mr and Mrs Sanders still achieved a fully functional kitchen, in spite of their brief of a minimal space.

The island is entirely made up of drawers, meaning that this minimal kitchen design packs a powerful punch behind the scenes. Utilising drawer storage in kitchen design means that every inch of space is completely maximised.

Not only does this stripped back kitchen design flow easily into the social space of the living and dining area, but guests can pull up a stool to each end of the grand island and mingle while the host tends to the tasks within the kitchen.  It’s the perfect kitchen for hosting friends.
